A friendly Mario Kart tournament ended with one lucky winner at Penrhyn Road campus on Wednesday.
Members of VAST, the Video Games, Anime, Sci-Fi and Tabletop society, battled it out for a chance of the title of champion over Mario Kart.
Head of Gaming at VAST, Kais Bouarissa said: “I’m really impressed with how the event turned out.”
“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, even if there was no prize incentive.”
After four hours of competing, student Aidan Bristow came away the champion with the highest number of points.
The tournament began at 5PM, with over twenty members applying to be in with a chance of winning, and continued through rounds of eliminations.
The groups were mixes of inexperienced players and experienced.
As players were eliminated, the skill group narrowed meaning more difficult games arose for the students still in the running.
The ruleset changed in the final round of the winners bracket to make things more interesting for the skilled players.
This final led to a winners podium being revealed and the very best being the last standing in the gruelling tournament.
Second and third place were taken by alumni Harry Phippard and Pharmacy student Reece Bristow.
Winner, Aidan Bristow said: “While everyone there wanted to do well, they were still having great fun with each other.”
“As someone who struggles to talk to people, it’s great to go somewhere where I can have fun and relax around friends.”
Friendly jibes were shared between the three as the winner was revealed and the tournament came to an end.
Bouarissa and VAST intend to hold more tournaments of this kind, with all participants praising the running and organisation of the night.
Bouarissa said: “We have more planned for the future definitely.”
“Games like Genshin Impact also draw big groups of our membership and our last event was a huge success.”
VAST, a society of more than 250 members, is a welcoming group of students and graduates from Kingston University who hold four events a week based on their various specialties.
